WASHINGTON – Frost Law will be participating in several upcoming free webinars of interest to the tax community and businesses, including a special look at what the mid-term election results mean in a Nov. 5 webinar.

During an unusual period of change where taxpayers and businesses are seeing large amounts of issues affecting their bottom line, Frost Law will be joining ALFi, the Accounting, Legal & Finance Institute, for a series of webinars featuring former IRS executives, veteran Capitol Hill observers, and key tax reporters.

The sessions will cover a wide range of topics, including election results, proposed tax law changes, delinquent Small Business Administration loans now in collection status, Employee Retention Credit refund updates, and help for tax nonfilers. Frost Law’s news page has more details on these topics, including important updates involving IEEPA tariff refunds following the Supreme Court decision earlier this year.

“This is a unique time in the tax and legal community,” said Glen Frost, Frost Law’s Founding Partner. “Given the amount of changes taking place, it’s important for the tax community and businesses to make sure they’re not missing developments that could have a financial impact.”

  • Election results, Nov. 5. With the nation focused on the midterm elections, what will the results mean across the tax community, taxpayers, and the IRS? At 1 p.m. Eastern on Thursday, Nov. 5, Frost Law's Terry Lemons will review the election results along with Politico's Bernie Becker, NAEA's Thad Inge, Jones Walker's Marybeth Nassif, and Tax Notes' Cady Stanton. They will analyze the results from the perspective of tax professionals and look at a possible lame-duck session of Congress in “Crystal Ball: What the Election Means for the Tax Community.”
  • Late Tax Legislation, Nov. 17. With Congress potentially returning for a lame-duck session later this year, tax legislation could still affect the tax community. Continuing a special series on the proposed Taxpayer Assistance and Service (TAS) Act, this 3 p.m. Eastern session will look at “Independence Day: Appeals, Refund Claims, and the Taxpayer Advocate Under the TAS Act.” The special session will include a discussion with former IRS Chief of Appeals Elizabeth P. Askey, now Of Counsel at Skadden on Tax Controversy and Litigation issues, as well as Frost Law’s Peter Haukebo. Terry Lemons, another former IRS executive, will moderate.
  • Delinquent SBA loans, Oct. 28. There’s still time to register for the 1 p.m. Eastern session on an overlooked issue that’s surprising thousands of businesses. Delinquent Small Business Administration (SBA) loans have been sent to the Treasury Department for collection, in many cases without proper notification to businesses. Frost Law’s Daniel Staeven, Peter Mancini, and Rebecca Sheppard will explore options for those who took pandemic-era Economic Injury Disaster Loans in “EIDL Aftermath: The Path Forward.”
  • Employee Retention Credit, Oct. 29. Frost Law’s Rebecca Sheppard will join colleague Peter Haukebo for a 3 p.m. Eastern update on another pandemic-era program that continues to bedevil businesses seeking IRS refunds. Those waiting on ERC refunds face an array of challenges to get their money. “ERC Endgame: Appeals, Refund Litigation, and What’s Next” will provide critical updates for those still waiting.
  • Nonfiler Options, Nov. 4. For those who haven’t filed tax returns for several years, dealing with the IRS can feel daunting. Frost Law’s Matt Eddleman will discuss ways taxpayers – and their representatives – can get help. The 1 p.m. Eastern session will look at “Penalty Relief for Nonfilers: Automatic Exemption from Penalty, First Time Abate, and Reasonable Cause.”
