The IRS Gets a Glow-Up: Taxpayer Service, Modernization, and Preparers Under the TAS Act

The bipartisan Taxpayer Assistance and Service (TAS) Act, S. 3931, proposes the most significant overhaul of IRS taxpayer service in a generation. Frost Law partners Rebecca Sheppard, Esq. and Peter Haukebo, Esq. join ALFi (Accounting, Legal, and Finance Institute) to examine what the bill would change for taxpayers and the professionals who represent them, with Terry Lemons moderating.

Attendees will learn how the bill requires the IRS to digitize returns and correspondence, build a public dashboard tracking backlogs and wait times, and expand callback technology and electronic account access, including online accounts that representatives and preparers can finally use. The session also addresses a proposed extension of the mailbox rule to cover electronic submissions and payments.
