Frost Law announced today that Terry Lemons, a long-time senior leader at the Internal Revenue Service, will serve as the firm’s Public Relations Director.
Lemons will oversee communications and outreach at Frost, a firm headquartered in the Washington, D.C., metro area that serves clients nationwide. Frost’s team of 80 employees focuses on tax, business, litigation and estate matters across the country.
Lemons spent more than 25 years at the IRS, overseeing the agency’s communications operations for over 17 years as an executive before retiring last February. His wide-ranging portfolio included advising six consecutive IRS commissioners, creating the agency’s annual “Dirty Dozen” tax scam list as well as working with the nation’s tax professional community and the news media. Before joining the IRS, Lemons covered Congress and the White House as Washington bureau chief for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
“Terry’s decades of experience in the tax community and the communications world make him an ideal fit for our growing practice,” said Glen Frost, the firm’s Founder and Managing Partner. “His unique skillset of working in government, knowledge of the tax community and interacting with the media brings additional expertise to our firm.”
Lemons added: “I’ve watched the Frost team at work for several years. They are smart, insightful and compassionate people. This position presents a great opportunity to build on my work with the tax and legal communities and, ultimately, continue helping taxpayers and the nation’s tax system.”
In his final role at the IRS, Lemons served as the agency’s Communications and Liaison Chief for 11 years. He oversaw the agency’s Congressional relations, employee communications and external communications, including launching the IRS social media program. As part of his work with the tax community, Lemons directed the IRS Tax Forums and managed the Stakeholder Liaison organization.
Since his long-planned government retirement last year, Lemons has remained active in the tax community. He’s spoken at numerous tax and accounting conferences and commented on a variety of issues. He’s also written articles appearing in Forbes.com and The Hill. His first book - on baseball - will be published this summer.
