Frost Law is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Tax Technician to support our Tax Controversy and Compliance teams. This role plays a key part in assisting with back-year tax return preparation, financial statement preparation for IRS purposes, and the organization and reconstruction of client financial records. The ideal candidate will bring strong bookkeeping and accounting skills, experience with accounting software, and a solid understanding of tax-related financial documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain, organize, and reconcile client financial records, with an emphasis on back-year tax return preparation
- Prepare federal and state income tax returns, primarily for individuals
- Reconstruct financial records when documentation is incomplete or unavailable
- Prepare accurate trial balances, profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements to support IRS filings
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and other financial accounts
- Assist attorneys and tax professionals with gathering and organizing documentation for IRS audits, examinations, and compliance submissions
- Ensure proper classification of income and expenses in accordance with tax reporting requirements
- Communicate with clients to obtain missing information and clarify financial data
- Maintain strict confidentiality and safeguard sensitive client financial information
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience
- Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks (Online and/or Desktop) or similar accounting software
- Experience with CCH Axcess and/or ProSystem fx Tax preferred
- Familiarity with IRS financial statement requirements and back tax return preparation strongly preferred
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple deadlines, and prioritize competing projects
- Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and accuracy
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for client interaction and internal collaboration
