We are seeking an experienced litigation paralegal to support our international trade practice before the U.S. Court of International Trade (CIT) and, where relevant, on appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. The paralegal will be responsible for monitoring active and potential cases, tracking court and agency deadlines, and drafting pleadings and supporting filings under attorney supervision. The ideal candidate combines strong organizational skills with familiarity with customs and trade remedy proceedings and the CIT's distinct rules of practice.
Key Responsibilities
Case Monitoring and Docket Management
- Monitor the CIT docket (CM/ECF) and relevant agency proceedings to identify new actions, deadlines, orders, and filings affecting active and prospective matters.
- Track Federal Register notices, including antidumping and countervailing duty determinations and administrative review results, to flag time-sensitive opportunities to commence or respond to actions.
- Maintain a centralized calendar of statutory deadlines (e.g., the limited windows to file a summons or complaint), scheduling orders, and briefing schedules, and proactively alert attorneys.
- Track liquidation, suspension of liquidation, and reliquidation status on entries relevant to pending cases.
Drafting and Filing
- Draft pleadings and litigation documents for attorney review, including summonses, complaints, answers, motions, briefs, statements of facts, and proposed orders, consistent with the CIT Rules.
- Prepare and assemble the administrative record, joint appendices, exhibit indices, and tables of authorities and contents.
- File documents through the CIT and Federal Circuit electronic filing systems, ensuring compliance with formatting, service, confidentiality, and business-proprietary information (BPI/APO) requirements.
- Cite-check, proofread, and Bluebook-format briefs and other submissions.
Case Support
- Organize and manage case files, document productions, and the voluminous records typical of trade remedy and classification disputes.
- Coordinate service of process and communications with the Clerk's office, opposing counsel, and client representatives.
- Conduct factual and procedural research, summarize agency determinations, and prepare chronologies and case status reports.
- Assist with administrative protective order procedures and the handling of confidential and proprietary materials.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience with CIT and/or Federal Circuit practice and the CIT Rules of procedure.
- Familiarity with customs law and trade remedy proceedings (antidumping/countervailing duty, classification, valuation, and CBP protest matters).
- Understanding of the roles of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the Department of Commerce, and the U.S. International Trade Commission.
- Experience handling business-proprietary information under administrative protective orders.
